The different lexical access and sentence parsing models considered above represent a fascinating and challenging material for further contemplation. It seems very likely that any reader has several strategies for each reading task in store and uses them interchangeably (or in combination) depending on the complexity of the text, the reader’s background, proficiency, reading habits, reading situation (incl. attention, motivation, interest), etc. It could also be possible that certain reading strategies may prevail or be underused by an individual; which could, in its turn, account to some degree for liking/disliking of certain types of texts; reading and comprehension good/poor results.
The efficacy of reading undoubtedly depends on such circumstances as attention, motivation, memory6 and also graphical (typesetting, font color, background color) and structural representation of information (how pieces of information are organized into units for easier perception).
